DJ Tunesmith is a Hackney-based DJ/Producer and Record Label owner who has musical blood coursing through her veins. Her father was in a 1960s reggae doo-wop group called The Marvels. She has been involved in the music industry for many years. In the 1990s, she was publisher and editor of underground black music magazines: Hard Edge and Cipher, interviewing Ice-T, OutKast, Chuck D, David Rodigan, The London Posse and many more. Tunesmith has been playing out to highly receptive crowds in venues including Corsica Studios, The Groucho Club, Ronnie Scott’s, The Standard Hotel, The Ned, The BBE Store, Blue Marlin Ibiza London, The BFI, The Book Club as well as Mojo Club and Le Fonque in Hamburg. She has also DJed at Southern Soul Festival in Montenegro and resident DJ for the Craig Charles’ Funk and Soul Summer Series and Norman Jay MBE at Brixton Jamm. She has residencies at Bambi, Seed Library and Century Club where she holds her Stokie Basement party. Navigating predominately vinyl sets and groove-laden beats encompassing funk, hip hop, jazz, soul, disco, broken beat and boogie. A key influencer and tastemaker on social media providing a platform for new and exciting sounds, Tunesmith is also a member of the Eves’Drop Collective. The collective at The Sanctuary, Hennessy and Love Dancin’ stages at Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival in Cambridgeshire since summer 2021.
